FLUOR DONATES $40,000 TO FOUNDATION
-August 2010

In March the Mercer County Foundation for Education’s Executive Director, Becky Holt, received a phone call that more than got her attention. Jeff Schultz, Human Resources Manager for Fluor, contacted Holt about the possibility of his organization making a sizable donation to the Foundation. Eager to jump through the hoops and cut some red tape, Holt has worked for the past 3 months finalizing the details and paperwork to secure a $40,000 donation from Fluor.

“I can’t believe it. I’m just ecstatic about this generous donation and what this means for our students”, said Holt. “I knew when we started this venture back in 2008 that great things were ahead of us, but when you get a donation like this along with the support and belief in your organization from your community, it just makes me speechless. And if you know me at all, I’m never at a loss for words”, said Holt. “I just can’t thank Fluor enough.”

Fluor is a FORTUNE 500 company that delivers engineering, procurement, construction, maintenance (EPCM), and project management to governments and clients in diverse industries around the world. Most recently,
they have been doing extensive work at the E.W. Brown power plant in Burgin. Before leaving, Mr. Schultz told Holt they wanted to give back to the community after finalizing the project they began in Burgin a few years ago. And give back they did.

“The Fluor donation is going to help us help kids and that’s what we’re all about”, Holt said. “Fluor asked us to use their donation to fund 2 scholarships for students from the Hughes Jones Area Technology Center to help them continue their education by learning a skill or trade and that is exactly what we are going to do.”

Mercer County Senior High School senior students who will have attended the vocational school during the 2010-2011 school year will be eligible to apply for a $1,500 scholarship to be awarded in May 2011.
