Fourth Grade Behavior System

In fourth grade, each time a student chooses to break a school rule he/she will receive a “stick slip”.  On this stick slip the student must state what he/she did, the school rule that was broken, and the date.  (This system requires students to think about their own misconduct and hopefully correct it without any further action.)  When finished, the student will hand it back in to the teacher for record keeping.  Should the behavior not be rectified, parents will be notified at the end of the school day once a student receives 3 stick slips. If  5 stick slips are accrued in one week, the student will receive an office referral.

On the other hand, to reinforce and encourage positive behavior, students will be given one ticket for each day they did not receive a stick slip. They will then write their names on each ticket and place the tickets in a classroom jar. At the end of the week, the teacher will roll dice to determine how many names will be drawn to receive an incentive reward for a job well done, all the while teaching probability. Tickets not drawn will remain in the jar until the end of the month and then the process will start over again.

For “above and beyond” behaviors witnessed by any teacher/staff member and for students who did not pull a single stick slip in a week’s time, bonus tickets of a different color will be given. Students can choose to save up 15 bonus tickets for a sure chance of receiving a reward or choose to put the bonus tickets in the jar to increase their chances of being drawn out on Friday.  In addition, any student who pulls four or less stick slips in a month will be invited to the school wide monthly reward party.

All rewards are teachers’ choice.

The rules for everyone are:

"Give me five" is a signal I use to get the children's attention.
When they hear me say "Give me five," they are to show:

2 eyes looking at me

2 ears listening to me

1 closed mouth
