Back to School Newsletter 8-10-18

What a great first three days of school! We want to thank all staff, parents and students for helping things go so smoothly. Please be patient with drop off and pick up until students are used to the system.
Monday, Aug. 20th  will be the last day parents can escort students into the building or to the front door in the morning. After that day all students must be dropped off through the front drop off line, not in the parking lot. (The only exception is for students with medical needs that have been pre-approved.) We also require that students be picked up through the car-rider line as well unless there is a medical reason or a scheduled appointment.
K Parents- Starting the week of Aug. 13th, have your students show you where they go each morning instead of you showing them.  K students should be able to show you to follow the green line on the floor and they should be able to walk to class independently without any issues.  We’ve been practicing since day 1.
Grade 1 & 2 Parents-  Your students should be ready to walk in by themselves starting this week.
Parents/ Guardians- Please turn in all school paperwork  and $15 school fee ASAP. Also if you plan for your child to be a car rider occasionally, please stop by the school office and get a car rider pass.

=      Turn in all school paperwork and $15 fee ASAP. Car rider passes can be picked up in school office.

=      Cars must MERGE from the double loop as they come up the hill for drop off and pick up.

=       First set of front doors is used for morning drop-off . Second set of doors used for pick up in afternoons (& Pre-K)

=      We do not transfer calls to teachers during instructional time. You will be encouraged to leave a message.

=      We recommend that all students supply their own headphones or ear-buds to use during computer time. These will be placed in a Ziploc bag with your child’s name for their use only. We also recommend XL Ziploc bags be sent to school to put backpacks and jackets in each day.  This keeps student backpacks and jackets from touching other students’ items and prevents the spread of bugs.

WE ARE A FREE LUNCH & BREAKFAST SCHOOL!  Student only pay for “extras.” This means parents may NOT bring in restaurant food to the cafeteria.
We have extra group class pictures from 2017-18 in the office. Free!  First come, first serve.
E-mail forum:  The principal uses Facebook and a parent forum email/ text group to communicate with parents in-between newsletters. The school council and PTO can also use this to get input from parents or when we are in need of volunteers or information. If you would like to sign up, send an e-mail to with “forum” in the subject line and tell us if you prefer e-mail or text.
SHOES & CLOTHES- Our enrichment classes run for 5 days in this order: Library, Art, Music, P.E., and Science (LAMPS). Students also have 2 scheduled recess times every day. Your child needs tennis shoes on P.E. days and also appropriate clothes (not your brand new clothes) on Art days. Check the teacher newsletter for exact days. Because of daily recess, we ask that students NOT wear flip flops or sandals without a heel or ankle strap to school.  Flip flops break easily and cause students to fall as they run. Also, please keep in mind that high heels are never appropriate for a student in grades K-2.
