February News

PTO contest-  I   "heart"  BOXTOPS-    Boxtop collection deadline is Feb. 20th.  This is a classroom contest to earn a pizza or ice cream party (one per grade level).  Please make sure to put student’s name and homeroom on the envelope or bag or use the collection form that is being sent home.
SCHOOL SAFETY-  Did you know MCES underwent a voluntary school safety audit last September?  We received numerous commendations for our procedures and there were only a few concerns.  The concerns included: having lobby supervision start a few minutes earlier, shifting a supervisory location near the cafeteria, reminding staff members to wear badges, looking at ways to get visitors to always sign out in office (take keys, have sign in/ out window) and looking closely at lighting, interior door issues, extension cords, and some outdoor maintenance issues.  Amazingly, 444 parents and 83 staff members responded to the school survey questionnaire and the results were very positive.
PRESCHOOL PARENTS-  Reminder: If there is a one or two hour “delay” called for weather, there will be NO morning preschool. Any time there is an “early dismissal”, there will be no afternoon preschool (unless it is called after students have arrived.)  Also, after student pick up, please exit the parking lot via Tapp Rd (4 way stop) and not Moberly Rd.
ATTENDANCE-  If a student has any of these symptoms, they must be symptom-free (without medication) for 24 hours BEFORE returning to school: fever, vomiting, diarrhea.  The nurse is seeing students almost daily who had a fever or vomited at home and were sent to school before the 24 hour mark. These students often ride the bus and sit in class with other students until the fever spikes or they get sick again. If a student has pink-eye, rash, ringworm, etc… they need a doctor’s note or symptom-free to return.  If a student has lice/ bedbugs, they can return to school after treatment. Feel free to call us if your child is sick or if you have questions.  Send any parent or doctor notes with the child when they come back to school. (Please do not bring the sick child to school just to bring in a note.)
ART TO REMEMBER-  On Feb. 26th students will bring home order forms for Art to Remember.  This program allows parents to order a variety of items (coffee mugs, mouse pads, flags, etc…) that have the student’s art work printed on the item.  These make for great grandparent and Mother’s Day gifts! As always, ordering is optional. Orders must be turned in by March 7th and are scheduled to be in the second week of April.

* Always remember to update addresses, phone numbers, and custody paperwork in the school office as needed.
