8th Grader Places 3rd in State Essay Contest

Maddie Angel Plaaces 3rd in State Essay Contest In November, King Middle School was notified that 8th grader Maddie Angel had submitted an essay that was a finalist in the Gilda Club Write Stuff state contest.  Judges scored more than 150 entries among high school and middle school entries.

Final judging has occurred and Maddie’s essay placed 3rd  in the category of middle school student connected to cancer. Maddie won $125. Congrats again to Maddie.

The Write Stuff Teen Contest is open to students in grades 6-12 who have a cancer connection – their own diagnosis or that of a family member or friend. Students must be residents of Kentucky or Southern Indiana and may enter in one category only – essay, poetry, art or video. Cash prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in each category (1st - $500, 2nd - $250, 3rd - $125).

The Gilda’s Club, located in Louisville, KY, provides strength and comfort from members impacted by cancer. Their mission is to help all people affected by cancer. The members share their experiences and wisdom. Men, women and children of the team, along with a passionate board and dedicated volunteers, provide an impressive program of support.
