MCSH Environmental Studies Class Takes Educational Field Trip

MCSH Environmental Studies Class High school students in Dr. Ekambaram Elumalai’s AP Environmental Studies class got a very rewarding opportunity to visit a sewer treatment plant in Floyds Fork, Louisville. Students had the opportunity to see the processes of the plant and relate it to what they learned in their textbooks and Dr. Elumalai’s lectures. Seeing the primary, secondary, and tertiary treatments up close was amazing. Students enjoyed every bit of this educational trip from the oxidation, chlorination, and UV radiation. Learning of the uses of sludge, such as fertilizer, and how UV radiations alters DNA, kills bacteria was also extraordinary. Furthermore, learning of how the treated water was safely put back into the environment was really intriguing as well.
