MCSH Students Attend Annual Kentucky Book Fair
The Mercer County Senior High School Book Club received a $300 grant from the Kentucky Humanities Council to attend the 2017 Kentucky Book Fair. This year’s Kentucky Book Fair was held on Friday, November 17 at the Alltech Arena in Lexington, KY. Since its inception in 1981, the Kentucky Book Fair has been connecting readers and authors in a celebration of shared passion and mutual interest: the importance of reading and writing. Each year, more than 170 local and national authors participate in the event, signing their latest books and meeting readers from Kentucky and surrounding states. On average, nearly 3,500 readers of all ages flock to the event to meet their favorite writers and new authors as well. MCSH Book Club members had the opportunity to interact with authors through a series of engaging presentations which included a master class and lunch with author Erin Merryn and a panel discussion with young adult authors, Gwenda Bond, David Arnold, Brendan Reichs, Courtney Stevens, Adam Silvera and Sheba Karim. Additional authors participated in a meet and greet where students had a chance to purchase books, obtain autographs and speak to the authors individually. MCSH Book Club members who attended are Natalie Britton, Roman Doddema, Alexis Floyd, Haley Floyd, Allie Garcia, Mackenzie Hall, Kaia Hancock, Avery Harlow, Katie Hensley, Lane Royalty, Brenna Russell, Allyn Stahlman and Victoria Wilson. The club sponsor is Kim Helton Cox, MCSH Media Specialist.
