The tradition continues and KMS says. “Welcome Home” to all veterans.
Mrs. Tiffany Ison, the social studies department, and the KMS band under Ms. Ashford’s direction performed yet another wonderful tribute to the veterans of Harrodsburg, Mercer County, Kentucky, and the United States.
6th grader Ashley Howard performed the “National Anthem” while the Harrodsburg National Guard presented colors.
Mr. Terry Gordon and Mr. Jason Bryant presented the story of Harrodsburg Tanker Leo Russell, who recently passed away. 7th grade students recited “A Tribute to the Sixty-Six Men of Company D” and Mr,. Greg Warren performed Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA”.
Guest Speakers Andrew Collins and Bryon Marlowe talked about welcoming veterans home and supporting them in the community. Mr. Collins discussed the numbers of active servicemen and women over history and how Americans need to support them. He said,”They don't need hand outs but a hand up.” Mr. Marlowe also talked about why he joined the military and the history of Veterans Day.
A slide presentation was shown to honor the servicemen and women whose children, grandchildren, and other family members attend King Middle School. The KMS concert band performed “Freedom Finale” arranged by Michael Story and Jonah Lewis performed Taps to honor those that have fallen while in the line of duty.
Congratulations to 8th graders Maddy Lehane Moffett (2nd place) and Ashton Dixon (1st place) for winning the Patriot's Pen Essay Contest.
KMS is proud of all Veterans and honor their sacrifices to serve our country.
