Sport Performance

The Mercer County Athletic Department’s Strength and Conditioning Program, under the direction of Coach Jeremy Carlson, is one of seven high schools in the state of Kentucky with a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). In addition to overseeing the high school’s weightlifting classes, the Strength and Conditioning Program is responsible for working closely with the training of all sports. We are all Titans trying to foster a championship culture that we need to win at the district, regional and state level. Our strength and conditioning program provides sport-specific training to help our Titan students and athletes reach their highest potential. Optimal sport performance is acquired through various forms of training including strength, power, sport specific conditioning and speed, agility, mobility, and flexibility.

At Mercer we develop training programs based on physical evaluations in order to bring about desired results. Data informed decisions are made from factors such as body composition, mobility, muscular strength, vertical and horizontal power output, muscular endurance and cardiovascular endurance.

Our Mercer Strength and Conditioning Department challenges our student-athletes in the aspects of leadership/teamwork, work ethic, winning attitude, attendance and the ability to follow instructions. Athletes that exemplify the highest levels of achievement become eligible for National Strength and Conditioning All-America (NSCA & NHSSCA) honors.

Ultimately, the mission of the Mercer County Strength and Conditioning Program is to prepare students for their athletic endeavors and be a catalyst for a lifetime of healthy living.
