COVID-19 update

Mercer County Staff and Families,

We have been notified that one staff member from King Middle School has tested positive for COVID-19  and is self-quarantined at this time. As a result, the King Middle School and the Food Service/Technology buildings will be closed until Tuesday, September 1st, to allow staff to disinfect the areas where the employee worked.

We are working with the Mercer County Health Department to provide them a list of names and phone numbers of all those who are considered to have had "close contact" to this employee. The Mercer County Health Department will be contacting those who they determine meet their criteria as someone who has been in close contact with this person . If you are contacted by the Health Department, please cooperate with them fully.

We do know that the employee helped distribute Chromebooks and materials to the KMS students and families this week. While this interaction may not have been long enough to be a "close contact" by definition, out of an abundance of caution, we advise you to monitor your health and the health of your children. If you should develop any COVID-19 symptoms, please contact your health care provider to be tested.

As we are preparing to start the 20-21 school year, we realize that this virus is very scary to our staff and families. We have worked very hard to develop and implement plans and protocols to allow us to start school safely. As previously announced our safest option for returning to school, at this time, is to return using virtual instruction. Our first Titan Learning Day will be September 3rd and will continue through until September 28th.

We will continue to work with our local health department to determine the safest way to provide instruction for our students and our staff.
If you have questions, please contact us at 859-733 -7000.
